Amongst many other things Raymond Scott created unique and wonderful music for films & advertising, so when Snip-Snap Music creator Jon Kraus met Stan Warnow (Scott's son & Director of a feature length documentary about his life) things started to happen!! Stan was doing a screening of his movie at Sensoria festival in Sheffield earlier this year and (unable to attend) Jon was initially just keen to see the film, but after firing a link to the film's trailer around a few mates it became apparent that a Manchester screening would definitely be well received!! "Raymond Scott themes like 'Powerhouse' in Warner Bros. cartoons arguably helped shape the postwar musical aesthetic as much as anything Elvis or the Beatles did."-John Corbett, Chicago Reader.
"Raymond Scott was definitely in the forefront of developing electronic music technology."-Bob Moog
Without doubt, one of the most technically brilliant, musically talented & unsung heroes of 20th century music - from his off kilter Big Band Jazz hits of the 30's (that were picked up by Warner Bros for Bugs Bunny & co) through to pioneering electronic compositions and providing source material for the likes of J Dilla, & the Gorillaz. His ceaseless experimentation and technological innovation provided some of the foundations for modern electronic music.
Scott started composing big band jazz in the 30's, before pioneering the use of electronic sounds in music, scoring ads for Ford, General Motors, Bendix, Sprite as well as several collaborations with the Muppets creator Jim Henson. It's hard to get across the gravity of his talent, but Scott was pretty much unrivalled in his ability to inject his quirky personality into truly outstanding compositions at the same time as inventing the machines that played them!!! Scott's music really is one in the eye to anyone who thinks that electronic music is the joyless domain of bleeps and blandness.
